Brooks I.D. Program

CAMP MOMENTS…
Hi Everyone-
I decided to make this issue all about the inaugural I.D. Camp. In all regards the camp was a complete success, and I think everyone who attended would agree with my sentiments.

We hope to eventually allow everyone the opportunity to connect with each other (and Brooks) at a camp experience!  I’ll try my best to convey the emotions surrounding this event, but will probably not do it justice.

CAMP SHOUT-OUTS!
Here are a few photos of I.D. Members at camp and some comments regarding their experiences. Enjoy!

“I had an amazing time at camp.  I kept thinking ‘Wow, this is a great company, and I feel very important!’ The material we covered and the fun interjected was perfect.  I made some great connections and friends and definitely appreciate the company more than ever.  I hope that Brooks expands that social end of it even more nationwide so I have an opportunity to see many of you and the IDers again”
- Krissie Westenberger

“Ah, it’s been hard to return to reality.  I had an absolute blast at the camp—I don’t think I could ever have enough words to thank you.  You and your team put on an amazing weekend for us.  Everyone was talking about how it really makes you feel like part of the Brooks family; you guys treated us like rock stars.”
- Laura Kloeper (Frayed Laces)

“Thanks for an AMAZING weekend Steve!!! The memories & lasting
friendships - I will treasure FOREVER!  The camp was absolutely unbelievable—just cannot thank you enough for everything you and Brooks did for us.  From the bottom of my heart—thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  Let’s do it again real soon…..”
- Donna Elder

“It was a great experience to bring us all together.  In a way I feel quite honored to be a part of such an amazing company who truly is at the grassroots level wanting our comments and feedback!”
- Jessica Sleight

“It was first class from beginning to end.  You are an inspiring group with a lot of positive energy—the same holds true for all of the ID members. What an amazing group of people!  I learned a lot from everyone.”
- Brad Moats

“I just wanted to thank you and the Brooks staff, again, for a truly memorable and amazing weekend!  It was motivational, inspirational, and so informative. You all went ABOVE and BEYOND any expectation I could have had prior to arriving. The generous apparel, snacks, meals, and fun were all so appreciated.  I especially enjoyed touring headquarters and seeing where you all work and put it all together.”
- Ruth Mallory

SUMMER RACING
I want to send best wishes to everyone training in the heat and preparing for summer and fall races.  Don’t forget to complete the Positive Media Exposure form if you qualify, register for an age-group award, and keep watching your email for new and exciting program updates.  I hope to see you on the trails and roads
this summer!
SHOE DESIGN CONTEST
Rich Zartman, Brooks’ lead footwear designer, held a “coloring contest” for camp members to design a color palate for the Adrenaline™ GTS 12. Farra Karsen won with the above design and will have her own pair of GTS created in her design!  Jealous? Me, too!
EZ T DESIGN CONTEST

Our apparel Product LIne Manager, Beth Brewster, also held an EZ T design contest and while the winner is yet-to-be determined, I thought I would include one submission that caught my eye.  Mike Morgan, from the Hansons-Brooks ODP, designed the above EZ T with a runner leaving a Porta Potty. The text on back reads “Just Did It.”

width="150" height="139">

I have been notified that the Launch has been received at our
distribution center and is ready to order!  It should be on
the pro site for purchase in the next few days.

The Launch is a new, lightweight (8 oz), neutral racing/training
shoe for anyone who desires a non-posted racer with a little more
cushion than the Racer ST.  Wear test feedback on this shoe
has been stellar and I’m pumped to try my first pair.  For
most ID marathoners, this will be an ideal shoe!

CHRIS CALFEE’S STORY

I asked Chris to write a brief note to
everyone because his story is very relevant to running and
endurance sports.  Thanks for reading…

Runners beware.  We are not
 invincible.  After the
Shamrock Marathon, I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my
calf.

Furthermore, during a myriad of tests and
drawn blood, I was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden, an inherited
clotting disorder, as well as a Protein C
mutation.  Based on these factors, I am now at a
10-20 times greater risk of developing blood
clots.

I also learned that a steadily growing number
of runners and endurance athletes are being diagnosed with blood
clots.  Perhaps as much as 10% of the population
has Factor V.

My words of wisdom are
this.  Listen to your
body.   Stay hydrated.
Avoid long trips following longer races.
Remember that running is part of life not life equals running.

My future is one of slower times, a daily
regimen of blood thinners, and a greater appreciation of what it
means to inspire daily.

- Chris Calfee
