Brooks I.D. Program

Inspire Daily January 2008 Newsletter

Shout Outs!

We had several members compete in the USATF Club Nationals XC Championships on December 8th in West Chester, OH.  Most notably, ID Member Chris Swisher, running for Team Indiana Elite, finished 6thoverall in the men’s open 10k, helping his team to a 2nd place overall finish.  Congrats, Chris!

Another ID Member, Cheryl Lowe, has been awarded a monthly column on the new running website Flotrack.com.  If you’d like to see Cheryl in her Brooks gear and read her first post, you can access the site at http://www.flocasts.org/flotrack/articles.php?id=253.

I expect to have more shout-outs as the winter frost melts and some exciting road races and indoor meets begin.  And as always, if I missed a worthy result, please feel free to contact me.

2008 ID Membership

I continue to process your renewal applications and applications for Red and Blue level sponsorships for 2008.  Thank you to everyone who has sent me their paperwork; it keeps my database up-to-date, and helps me stay organized.

You should be hearing back from me shortly concerning the Red and Blue sponsorships for 2008.  One special note:  several of you emailed your applications, but forgot to include your name on the first line.  If you haven’t heard from me, this might be you!  Please resend your application at your earliest convenience.

I will be reviewing new applications beginning next week, so if you have a friend, family member or colleague who has applied, please pass along this information to them.

The Web is live!

Brooks has a new look and layout on our website and I encourage you to check it out!  Our Inspire Daily page has also changed and now includes product links, news, and an athlete profile section.

Our profiled athlete for January is Tom Mueller.  Go towww.brooksrunning.com/id to read about Tom, - his interests, hobbies, and favorite runs.  I will be highlighting a new ID member each month, so stay connected…this could be you!

The Brooks web team also started a Yahoo Group called “brooksid”. You will be receiving an invitation to join the group shortly via email. This is a great way to connect to other members, read posts, view pictures, and talk about running and training.

I have already posted several comments, including a file link with member info.  If you are interested in including your personal info on this file, please email me your information.  Per the request of several members, the last column is entitled “Member Hosting”.  If you are interested in hosting or being hosted for out-of-town races or events, please say “yes” when you send your information to me.

Product Corner

You asked for it and I heard your call.  I am currently screening ID racing singlets on our Mach IX Singlets for men, and our Team Shimmel for women.  These are both highly-technical fabrics with a semi-fit on the men’s top and a fitted fit on the women’s top.  Either singlet will be FREE to any member who promises to race in it.  I plan to begin racing in mine immediately!

The singlets are planned to be completed by January 22nd.

Events

We have a new development for the XC Championships in San Diegoon February 16th.  Namely, an ID member, Scott Pierce, has volunteered to coordinate a Master’s ID team for the race.  If you are a Master’s woman or man interested in competing in this race, please send Scott an email at ptumbleweed@aol.com or call him at (559) 643-9190.  We need at least 5 men and/or 5 women to field a full team. Thanks, Scott!

If you are only interested in watching and cheering, I’d still love to meet up with you at the meet!

Coaches’ Corner

Spence Cocanour, an ID Member since 1999, and established triathlete, submitted a list of 10 Triathlon Racing Tips, for those of you who like to throw on a wetsuit every now and then.  Spence has been racing triathlons for 14 years, including 7 Ironman races, and 3 trips to Hawaii. He has been on the US Air Force Triathlon team since 1997, serving as the team captain since 2000.  I have dabbled in triathlon myself and found his tips to be both interesting and practical.  His words of wisdom are attached to this newsletter.

Also, Mark Buciak, a member and established writer from Chicago, asked me to post his upcoming training camp for the Boston Marathon in April.  I know that nearly 50 of you plan to partake in this year’s race, so if you need some motivation or training advice, you might want to give Mark’s camp a try.  Mark’s flyer is attached to this newsletter as well.

Free Stickers

I have a few stacks of Brooks bumper stickers that say the following: ”More cushion, less pushin”, “My honor student can outrun your honor student”, and “I love my running shoes”.  I also have several large (24″ x 8″) window stickers with the Brooks logo on them.  If you would like some stickers I will only send them in groups of 10 because the postage is expensive.  Otherwise, first come, first served.

December Recap

  • Brooks goes Green!  Brooks recently unveiled a new product technology which will reduce landfill biodegradation by 50 times (roughly 1,000 years to 20 years).  More info on this exciting news to follow.
